Outer Island, one of the Thimble Islands located in Stony Creek, Connecticut, is part of the Stewart B. McKinney National Wildlife Refuge. The Center for Education and Research at Outer Island (CEROI) is a cooperative program between the Connecticut State University System and the Stewart B. McKinney National Wildlife Refuge. CEROI coordinates and sponsors educational and research programs that utilize Outer Island.
Jeffrey Warzecha was selected as the winner of the 2007 Leslie Leeds Poetry Prize, an annual literary prize awarded by the Connecticut State University System Foundation. Warzecha, a senior at Eastern Connecticut State University, won with his poem, The Red String. Warzecha had his poem published in the Spring 2007 issue of Connecticut Review, a literary journal published by the Connecticut State University System. The annual contest is open to any student attending a Connecticut State University. The four CSU universities are Central, Eastern, Southern and Western Connecticut State University.
